ROY, Wash. —

A Pierce County Sheriff's Department SWAT team fatally shot a suspect who fired at deputies and a sheriff department aircraft as officers were serving a warrant on the "high-risk" suspect near Roy, sheriff's officials tell KIRO 7 Eyewitness News.

The man died of his injuries, Detective Ed Troyer said.

The shooting happened in the 2500 block of State Route 702 South -- also known as McKenna Tanwax Road -- near Eatonville Cutoff Road.

McCarty says a SWAT team was serving a "high risk" warrant, expecting possible resistance.  McCarty says the suspect shot at "air support."  The suspect shot at neighbors earlier.

Just before 5 p.m., viewers in the area called our newsroom, saying they saw at least a dozen police units, traveling at a high rate of speed towards the area.
