BOTHELL, Wash. —

Police are looking for witnesses to a violent confrontation in which an officer opened fire after a man tried to run him down in Bothell, investigators say.

The Snohomish County Multi-agency Response Team is investigating the officer-involved shooting to ensure it was justified.

Police said the incident started on Tuesday at 3:50 p.m. when a Bothell police officer pulled a car over along 228th Street next to Interstate 405.

The officer said he opened fire after the driver tried to run him over.

After the officer fired his gun at the driver's door, he had to chase the driver for miles.  No other officers were at the scene to interview witnesses to the incident.

Investigators said the man, who was on the run from police and the Department of Corrections, put the officer's life in danger when he sped toward him, but they need to gather accounts from anyone who saw it happening.

The man was caught after a woman spotted him looking at her through her sliding glass door.

Police said the man also dropped a backpack with a lot of cash inside. It is not known if that backpack was ever recovered.

Police said the man was driving a maroon two-door Pontiac sedan.

Investigators ask anyone who witnessed the incident to call the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office anonymous tip line at 425-388-3845.
