REDMOND, Washington —
Police released a sketch Wednesday afternoon of a man wanted in connection with the rape of a Redmond woman early Tuesday morning.
The Redmond Police Department said the attack happened at about 2 a.m. Tuesday at the Shadowbrook Apartments. A woman in her early 30s was studying in her apartment with her sliding glass door open when a man walked in, turned off the lights in her bedroom, held a knife to her throat and raped her. He then ran off, and possibly fled in a vehicle.
"We did a K-9 track. It was hot there for a while, and then it went cold, so likely the suspect got in a car and drove away," Redmond police spokesman Jim Bove said.
KIRO 7 showed the sketch to some neighbors Wednesday afternoon.
"He almost looks like a service person, doesn't he? Like somebody coming in, so you might open the door to him," four-year Shadowbrook resident Alice Glenn said.
She said her and her neighbors often leave their sliding glass doors open on warm summer nights.
"I live on the third floor, but still, today when I left, I locked it. I didn't leave it open," she said.
She said she didn't recognize the man in the sketch.
Another resident, Ross Wilson, said the man didn't look familiar to him, either.
"No, but it's pretty scary," he said. "I've only been here about three months or so and it's ... not comforting knowing that, ah, somebody's out here on the loose like this."
Investigators described the man as a white or light-skinned Latino with a medium build, wearing a dark-colored baseball hat, white T-shirt and a dark sweatshirt. Police said he spoke with a strong foreign accent, possibly Spanish. The victim did not recognize the suspect.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Redmond police tip line at 425-556-2581 or dial 911.
Police also said Wednesday that they do not believe a mid-April sexual assault at a neighboring apartment complex is connected to Tuesday's attack. That case remains unsolved.
