A Tacoma teacher pleaded not-guilty Friday to five counts of second-degree child rape.
Keshia Shaw, 33, was placed on administrative leave from Grey Middle School after a former student of hers reported the alleged rapes to his friends and his mother.
The boy, now 17, told police that he and Shaw had sex multiple times between April 2007 and December 2008, beginning at the end of his sixth-grade year when he was 12.
“These allegations came to light because the student was at church listening to a sermon about sexual abuse,” Pierce County Prosecutor Mark Lindquist said this week. “The pastor urged those who had been victims to talk about the abuse because the truth would ‘set you free.’”
Shaw’s bail has been set at $75,000, and she’s been ordered to have no contact with minors other than her two children.
