“Disgusted” – that’s what an Everett woman said she feels after discovering that her daughter’s former volleyball coach was arrested in a child sex sting.

Ron Swafford, 58, was the head coach of the Northshore Juniors Volleyball Club until he was arrested 12 days ago.

According to court documents, Swafford answered an advertisement two hours after Seattle police set it up. The ad targeted people interested in sex with children.

One of the detectives pretended to be a 13-year-old girl, and, according to the documents, Swafford described in graphic detail the sex acts he wanted to perform. He said he was a coach and even sent a photograph of himself with members of the volleyball club. When he was arrested, he had several sexual items in his possession.

“I’m disgusted,” Annamarie Jordan said.

Jordan pointed out Swafford in photographs and said she often traveled as a chaperone with the team. She said she never imagined Swafford may have had a sexual interest in young girls.

“I put my daughter in the trust of a man who is supposed to be a role model, and take care of her, and be responsible for her, and he breached that trust in the most horrible way an adult (can),” Jordan said.

Jordan’s daughter, Ayva Thomas, played volleyball for two years with Swafford as head coach. Thomas said Swafford abused her trust.

“It’s just amazing to see what adults are capable of,” she said.

Swafford is in the King County Jail on $300,000 bail. He’s scheduled to be arraigned February 22.
