Deputies Search For Man Who Stole Patrol Car

SEATAC, Wash. —

SeaTac police are searching for a man who stole a patrol car early Thursday morning.

A King County Sheriff's deputy arrested a suspected burglar at a smoke shop in SeaTac at about 5:30 a.m. The suspect was handcuffed and put in the back of the deputy's patrol car.

Officials said while the deputy was out of his car, the suspect managed to get his hands in front of him, slip into the driver's seat and drive off.

A sheriff's detective later spotted the patrol car being driven erratically, followed it until the driver pulled over and saw the man behind the wheel get out and flee.

Kent and Des Moines police K-9, a police dog and the sheriff's office helicopter searched for the man, but he was still missing at noon on Thursday.

Deputies described the suspect as an "older" white, "transient-type" man, who is 5 feet 5 inches tall and thin, with a beard and mustache.

He was wearing Carhartt clothing, black boots and silver handcuffs.
