Deputy Shoots Woman In Enumclaw Standoff

ENUMCLAW, Washington —

A King County deputy shot a woman in a standoff in Enumclaw after the woman pointed a gun at him, police said.

At about 1:50 p.m., a neighbor called police after the 43-year-old woman broke out several windows in her home and fired a gun, which led to a standoff with deputies at her home in the 37300 block of 244th Avenue Southeast, the Sheriff's Office said.

According to the neighbor, the woman and her husband were having marital difficulties.

The standoff continued into Thursday evening, said KIRO 7 Eyewitness News reporter Alison Grande, who was at the scene.

Police found the woman alone inside with a shotgun and they backed out. Sgt. John Urquhart said officers heard several shots and didn't know whether the woman had turned the gun on herself.

The Sheriff's Office said negotiators tried to reach the woman on both her cellphone and land line for five hours, but she never answered.

A robot was sent into the house but was unable to find the woman.

When SWAT officers searched the house and found the woman hiding in a crawl space, she pulled a shotgun.

Sgt. John Urquhart said the woman ignored orders to drop the gun and she was shot.

Her injuries are believed to be non-life-threatening.

The woman was alone in the home.

Police said they found several other weapons in the house.
