The woman, who was in her late 30s or early 40s, had obvious signs of trauma, police said.

Detectives with the Seattle Police Department's new Crime Scene Investigation unit gathered evidence at the apartment complex, which is designed for people with disabilities.

The woman, who had a disability, died several days ago, KIRO 7 Eyewitness News reported.

Police said they were investigating the possibility of a connection to a sex offender who lived in the area.

Curtis Thompson was arrested this week in an attack on two women in a University District apartment building. Thompson lived a few blocks away.

"Right now, we wouldn't narrow the investigation, but we wouldn't rule that person out right now," said Seattle Police Capt. Tab Gleason.

The woman's name was not released.

Police would not say whether the woman was sexually assaulted or whether someone broke into her apartment.
