TACOMA, Wash. —

A missing plane was found on the bottom of Puget Sound and the Pierce County sheriff's office said two crash victims are inside.

Pierce County took over the search operation Tuesday from the state Division of Aviation, which had conducted the air search. Divers Monday were unable to find the plane in 140 feet of water.

The plane crashed late last month in south Puget Sound near Herron Island with two men on board.

Crews With Sonar Gear Find Missing Plane

The plane disappeared Feb. 29 on a flight from Sequim to Auburn.

The Cessna 170 carried pilot David Verstrate, 65, of Federal Way and his brother-in-law, Harold Bennett, 59, of Puyallup.

Relatives hired a private company to locate the plane with sonar because the state didn't have the technology available.
