EVERETT, Wash. —

Troopers responded to a call of a sport utility vehicle falling off a trailer on southbound Interstate 405 on Thursday at 4 p.m.

Police said the vehicle fell off the trailer during a peak commute time, rolled into a median and stopped just short of the high occupancy vehicle lane.

Witnesses told authorities that the driver who was towing the trailer holding the SUV pulled off the road, wrote a note, placed it on the SUV’s windshield, then left the scene in his truck.

The note read, “Will pick up by 8 p.m.,” police said.

Police were unable to find the driver.

Upon investigation, police found that the SUV had incorrect license plates attached to it and impounded the vehicle.

The incident happened just south of the Wilburton Tunnel, north of Interstate 90.

Washington State Department of Transportation statistics show that an average of 400 collisions occur each year involving vehicles striking objects or debris in the roadway.
