SEATTLE —
A driver outsmarted a man who tried to carjack the driver’s vehicle in a parking lot Saturday night, Seattle police said.
After 8 p.m., a driver was sitting inside his pickup truck in a lot at Virginia Street and Boren Avenue when a man walked up to his truck, opened the driver's door and placed his hand over the driver’s mouth.
Police said the man started hitting the driver in the arm while telling the driver to get out of the truck and leave his keys.
The victim got his mouth free and told the attacker to move out of the way so he could get out of his vehicle, but when the attacker moved out of the way, the victim closed his door and locked it.
According to police, the man started pounding the driver’s door window, but the victim drove off.
The victim stopped at a location so he could keep an eye on the attacker.
Police said the attacker was going from car to car and checking them out, and then left the area on foot.
The victim called 911 while monitoring the attacker, and police responded to the scene.
Officers found the attacker in another lot a few blocks away.
The man was arrested without incident and was booked into the King County Jail for investigation of second-degree robbery.
