DUI Collision Ends With 2 Arrests, AK-47 Rifle

SEATTLE —

Seattle officers responding to a report of a vehicle collision involving fleeing armed suspects, arrested two people and recovered an AK-47.

Officers arrived at the scene in the 6200 block of Seaview Avenue North shortly before midnight Thursday and found the car crashed into two parked cars.

The 17-year-old male driver and a 20-year-old passenger were both arrested at the scene. Police said they believe the driver was under the influence of alcohol.

According to witnesses, the driver got out of the car armed with a rifle and then hid it in some nearby foliage, said Seattle police.

The driver returned to the car prior to the officers’ arrival.

Officers searched the area and quickly located an AK-47 assault rifle loaded with a 30 round "banana" clip. Officers searched the passenger and discovered that he was armed with a "butterfly" knife, illegal to possess in the City of Seattle.

Upon searching the suspects’ vehicle, officers found two baseball bats and a red bandanna in the back seat.

The driver was booked into the Youth Service Center for the felony weapons possession and DUI. The 20-year-old passenger was arrested and booked into the King County Jail for the knife violation.

The weapons were seized and placed into evidence.
