Duplex Fire Was Arson, Firefighters Say

SEATTLE —

The Seattle Fire Department says a fire early today at a duplex under construction in the city's Interbay neighborhood was arson.

Spokeswoman Helen Fitzpatrick said investigators determined the fire was intentionally set in the building which was still under construction at 23rd Avenue West and West Bertona Street.

The second and third stories of the three-story structure were in flames when firefighters responded at 4:15 a.m. Fitzpatrick said they prevented the flames from spreading to adjacent duplexes under construction.

There were no injuries. Damage is estimated at $175,000. There are no suspects. Police are investigating.
