Eastside Couple Becomes Amateur Detectives

REDMOND, Wash. —

An Eastside couple helped police capture a suspected identity thief with a little detective work of their own.

Mike Field's wallet and passport were stolen from his car inside a gated community in Redmond.

While Field called 911, his girlfriend called the credit card companies. She discovered that someone had used one of the stolen credit cards at a Seattle Holiday Inn. When she called the hotel, a clerk told her the suspected thief checked in using Field's name.

Seattle police arrested a 27-year-old Mountlake Terrace man. In addition to finding Field's belongings, police also found 10 passports, 15 driver's licenses, a number of checkbooks, 100 vehicle keys and equipment to make fake identities.

The case is still under investigation by police in Redmond and Seattle.
