Espresso Stand Robbery Caught On Camera

SEATTLE —

An armed robbery at a Ballard espresso stand Thursday was captured by surveillance video.

A young woman was working at the Gourmet Espresso Stand at 87th Street and Holman Road when it happened.

Workers said the robber seemed to know to wait to approach the window until the second barista on duty went to the bathroom.

Once he knew there was only one woman in the stand, the masked robber made explicit demands while waving a gun and threatening to shoot.

“Give me the money quick, or I’ll blow you away,” he said.

The barista went to the cash register and emptied it. Then, as if the robber had robbed the stand before, officials said, he asked for cash below the register.

“I want the money underneath, too. Do you want the change?" said the robber.

Within 30 seconds, the robber was gone.

The barista then closed and locked the window, hit a panic button, then called her manager.

This is the sixth time the espresso stand has been robbed.

Police are examining the surveillance video, but the robber was wearing a mask, making it impossible to identify him.

The stand’s manager came to work Friday morning with a security guard as protection.

Management said they are looking into having an extra person on duty whenever the stand is open.

The barista who was robbed has the next few days off to recover.
