The Federal Aviation Administration will deliver a key decision on commercial flights at Everett's Paine Field.

The FAA's final environmental determination has become a hot topic because some expect it to open the door to commercial airline flights at Paine Field.

Las Vegas-based Allegiant Air is one of two airlines that proposed offering flights from Paine Field four years ago.

Horizon Air dropped its request, but Allegiant is still in the game.

The airline said it would like to start with four flights a week and eventually increase them to 20 a week.

Backers said the flights would be good for business, pointing out that the airport already handles heavy jet traffic from Boeing.

Opponents worry about traffic, pollution, and noise.

"It's loud.  It shakes the house.  You have to put people on hold when you’re on the phone,” said neighbor Laura Beaty.

In September, the FAA said it did not see environmental obstacles to commercial air service at the airport, which could add up to 23 jet flights a day without significant extra noise or pollution.

The FAA will likely release a report and send it to the Snohomish County Council.  The County Council will not vote on the decision for at least another month.
