SEATTLE —

Family, friends and fans said goodbye to longtime KIRO 7 personality Harry Wappler Thursday at his funeral on Mercer Island.

Harry Wappler worked as a weatherman for KIRO-TV for 30 years.

The most touching tributes were from his sons.

"We're all here because in some way my dad connected with us, this was something that was a real gift of his," said Harry’s son Bill Wappler.

Many TV viewers felt that gift just by watching Harry and listening to his voice.

Harry wasn’t always on TV. He was an ordained Episcopal priest who made a career change, first to public relations then to broadcasting.

"At 32, he changed course, his ministry changed course," said Father Hunt Priest during Harry's funeral at Emmanuel Episcopal Church.

"He found something that worked for him, a great job," said Harry’s son, Andy Wappler.

That something was telling people what to expect when they went outside. Whether to wear a raincoat or a parka, whether to bring a pair of sunglasses or to carry an umbrella.

He was serious guy who also had a great sense of humor.

"If you knew my dad, one of the great things about him was although he did hold his degree in divinity, he also enjoyed things like whoopee cushions, the Simpsons and Benny Hill. He was a complex person," Andy Wappler said.

Harry loved his job, but he loved his family more.

"We never felt like we came second. My brother, my mother and I, we always knew what came first for him," Andy Wappler said.

Harry's wife died eight years ago.

He is survived by his two sons and five grandchildren.
