A Washington state family got the surprise of a lifetime after broken promises soured a costly summer vacation.
Debi and Nathaniel Parker would eat for free, have an ocean front view and would receive VIP treatment for two nights in one of Ocean Shore's premier hotels.
"They can expect an ocean view room. We've got special assist rooms. We've got two elevators servicing the upper three floors. We are right here on the ocean and we've got easy access for Nathaniel to the beach," said Tim Van Houten with Shilo Inns Suites Hotels
KIRO 7 Consumer Investigator David Quinlan traveled to Spokane to visit with Debi and Nathaniel at home. She thought the reason Quinlan was there was for a follow-up interview.
After a bad experience with Seattle-based Sunspots Inns and Resorts, Debi gave up on the idea of returning to the ocean with Nathaniel.
Debi said she was promised easy beach access for her 11-year-old son, who's in a wheelchair.
When she arrived, there was no was ocean view, no wheel chair access and the beach was a 15 minute walk . Read original story
Debi said the vacation left her devastated.
"I don't know what the outcome is going to be with Nathaniel right now, time wise. So every day is precious," Debi told Quinlan during his latest visit.
Just as Quinlan was about to wrap up the interview, he surprised Debi and told her the real reason he was there.
"Part of the reason why we are here, is that after your story aired, the City of Ocean Shores felt so bad about what happened that they want you to come back. Two nights at the best hotel. All your food is paid for, ocean view.
"Oh my Gosh. Really? Thank you so much," said Debi.
And while her son Nathaniel is unable to talk or walk, a surprise like this couldn't keep a smile off his face.
"We're going back to the ocean! I love you buddy," Debi told her son.
