Family In Anguish Over Dogs Believed Stolen

WOODINVILLE, Wash. —

The owners of two beloved and valuable dogs believed stolen from a Woodinville home are going to great lengths to get them back.

The dogs -- an English Bulldog named Augie, and Raleigh, a West Highland Terrier -- disappeared two weeks ago and are presumed stolen, said Kim Jackson, their owner.

"My daughter, she just cries every day. Why would somebody keep somebody else's dog?" Jackson said.

Both breeds are popular and expensive. The Jacksons paid $800 for the terrier. A well-bred bulldog can cost up to $3,000.

"They're very nice dogs. They're both very well-trained and they both really like people."

Police said they have no leads in the case.

Family members are doing all they can to find their pets. They've put up dozens of posters on mailboxes and signs throughout the Woodinville area.

They've visited every dog park and animal shelter in King County. They've sent letters to 180 veterinarians and are sending postcards to every residence within a three mile radius of their house, some 1,800 homes.

And they check Craigslist every day, hoping to spot someone trying to sell their dogs.

Jackson said the reason for all the effort is simple. The dogs are more than just pets; they are family.

"You can't say it's like you lost a child because that's a different thing but you do get attached to your animals and it is a relationship," Jackson said.

Anyone with information on the missing dogs is asked to contact the King County Sheriff's Office.
