FedEx Truck Explodes On SR-518 In Tukwila



TUKWILA, Wash. —

The tractor of a FedEx truck exploded early Thursday, disrupting the morning commute.

Firefighters were called to eastbound state Route 518 near Southcenter in Tukwila around 5:45 a.m. Thursday.

Dispatchers said the incident started when the semi truck collided with a car. Fuel leaked from the truck, which later caught fire.

Video from Chopper 7 showed two explosions coming from the tractor of the FedEx truck, along with a stream of ignited fuel.

Dispatchers said the driver of the FedEx truck escaped unhurt.

Video from Chopper 7 showed the damage was limited to the tractor of the truck, and the trailer appeared to have little damage.

Two lanes of eastbound state Route 518 and the offramp to Southcenter Mall were closed while crews cleared the wrecked truck and cleaned up spilled fuel.

Chopper 7 pilot Clark Stahl reported at least one crash in the backup.
