Ferry Kalakala Not Leaving Lake Union Today

Related

SEATTLE —

The historic ferry Kalakala will NOT be towed to

Neah Bay today. Owner Steve Rodrigues needs to finalize plans

before he can have the ship towed. That may happen within the next

few days.

Rodrigues has been amassing fines since November 30th,

the date by which the boat's Lake Union landlord demanded he remove

the vessel. Once it's cleared for transit, towing the Kalakala will

take about 42 hours to reach Neah Bay.

Rodrigues bought the ferry

at auction last October, saying he wants to restore the ship for

sailings around Puget Sound, and turn the vessel into a floating

restaurant and museum.
