Fire At Vacant Everett House A Mystery

EVERETT, Wash. —

An early-morning fire at a vacant house in south Everett Thursday is raising questions with neighbors and fire officials, reported KIRO 7 Eyewitness News.

The fire, which erupted at 12:30 a.m. and burned most of the night, left nothing but charred remains and shot flames that scorched the trees above the house and threw burning embers into neighbor Cory Jacoby's yard.

"I had to come out and wet down all the trees. You can see the embers all over the yard. It was pretty wild," said Jacoby.

Other neighbors said that although the house was vacant, there was a lot of traffic there, possibly from transients.

Police said there were early reports from neighbors that there may have been a methamphetamine lab in the home.

Neighbors also reported seeing doors kicked in and mattresses up against the home's windows.

Fire officials combed the scene Thursday morning to determine how and where the fire started. Police said an arson investigator may come to the scene on Friday.

No one was injured in the fire, but neighbors said the previous residents of the home had left four cats behind and only one cat has been seen since the fire.
