Fire Destroys 2 Apartments; 4 Families Homeless

KENT, Wash. —

Flames destroyed two apartments and left nearly 20 people homeless in Kent.

The fire started around 10 a.m. Saturday in an apartment at the Valli-Kee Homes in the 23400 block of 104th Avenue SE.

Six people, including five children, were in the apartment at the time. They all got out safely, said fire investigators.

The mother told KIRO 7 Eyewitness News that she knows the fire started in the back of the apartment, but is not sure how it started.

The fire spread to an adjoining apartment where six people lived, and three were home at the time. Fire investigators said they also got out safely.

Four families in all lived in the apartment building; they were all evacuated from the building.

The Red Cross is assisting three of the families, and the fourth is staying with relatives.

The Valli-Kee Homes apartments are owned by King County and are part of public housing.

Investigators said no injuries were reported and they have not determined the cause of the fire.
