Fire Destroys Kirkland Apartment Building

KIRKLAND, Wash. —

Fire has burned a Kirkland apartment building, destroying the roof of the six-unit complex.

VIDEO: Smoke Visible From Seattle

Flames were coming from the roof when firefighters arrived at the two-alarm fire at the Woodbridge Apartments complex shortly before 11 a.m. Thursday.

Clouds of smoke hung in the air above the fire and were visible from both sides of Lake Washington.

Video from Chopper 7 showed the roof in ruins, exposing the charred remains of the apartments below it.

All six three-bedroom units in the building were destroyed. One of them was unoccupied but families living in the others were evacuated.

No one was hurt.

The fire may have started on a balcony. Firefighters were reportedly investigating whether it started with a barbecue or boys lighting an aerosol spray.
