People connected to the house said they thought a propane tank explosion triggered the fire that engulfed the home and sent a smoke plume into the sky at about 7:30 a.m., KIRO 7 Eyewitness News reported.

"That house is a complete loss," said Chopper 7 pilot Clark Stahl, during live coverage on KIRO 7 Eyewitness News at 7:30 a.m.

Flames spread quickly, consuming the house and an outbuilding. The first fire crews on the scene had to take a defensive position.

According to officials, police responded to the home many times in the past for alleged crimes, including drugs and stolen property, KIRO 7 Eyewitness News reporter Richard Thompson said.

Investigators were looking into the possibility the fire started in a meth lab.
