Fire Kills Thousands of Chickens

 

STANWOOD, Wash. —

A fire gutted several chicken coops and killed thousands of chickens early Wednesday morning in Stanwood.

Flames shooting as high as 40 feet burned through a National Food Corporation facility on 268th Street Northwest near 28th Avenue, just west of Interstate 5.

The fire broke out around midnight Tuesday and about 60 firefighters from several districts battled the fire through the early morning hours. Tanker trucks had to bring in water.

The fire destroyed three large coops, each about 600 feet long.

The damage is estimated at more than $2 million.
