Fire Station Shutting Down In Lacey

SEATTLE —

Lacey Fire District is shutting down fire station 35 in the Hawks Prairie area because of a more than $1 million dollar budget deficit.

Five firefighters will also lose their jobs because of a failed levy.

The local firefighter union president says the cuts will hurt firefighters and those who need their services most.

“We'll still get there, we just won't get there in a timely fashion and that could be critical with structure fire incidents, major vehicle accidents and you know when you talk about cardiac arrests," said Kelly Perry, Firefighter Union President.

Station 35 just opened three years ago.
