Firefighters Keep Watch On Stump Fire

TUMWATER, Wash. —

Thurston County firefighters continue to watch hot spots Thursday after a large stump pile caught fire south of Tumwater.

The fire, more than an acre wide, is still smoldering after igniting around 7 p.m. Wednesday on 93rd Avenue Southwest and Kimmie Street.

A least a dozen fire districts responded to the fire that had flames up to 70 feet high. The blaze took several hours to contain.

Fire officials said they’ll stay at the scene for the next several days to keep the fire from spreading.
