FIFE, Wash. —
Police said a man fleeing from officers near Tacoma early Thursday was killed when he tripped and was struck by at least one car on Interstate 5.
The Washington State Patrol said Fife officers pulled a driver over on suspicion of DUI at 1 a.m. in the northbound lanes.
A check showed that a passenger in the car was wanted on arrest warrants for assault and eluding police. The man tried to run across the freeway near the Tacoma Dome and was struck by one or more vehicles and killed, police said.
No cars stopped. The Washington State Patrol is looking for at least one driver known to have struck the man.
