Three wounded American servicemen being treated in Germany talked with the media during a news conference this morning about their experiences in the heat of battle.

"I announced 'R-P-G'. That's when we got hit. No sooner had I said it we got hit by the rocket," said Sgt. Charles Hogan.

Sgt. Hogan described what happened when he and his Marine unit were suddenly under attack.

"It blew Sgt. Villifane out of the side. I was knocked up out of the turret landed on top of the vehicle and my legs went numb. [I] looked down and saw I still had my legs," Hogan said.

"We were told going through Nazairiya that we would see little or no resistance. Then we got in, it was a whole different ball game," Lance Cpl.. Joshua Menard.

As of midday Thursday, 48 soldiers from the coalition forces had been killed, 26 from the U.S. and 22 from Britain.

Seven Americans have been captured and 19 are missing.

More bodies of U.S. servicemen have arrived at Dover Air Force Base in Delaware.

Thursday's flight carried 16 marines and army soldiers killed in Iraq and the bodies of six air force personnel killed in a helicopter crash in Afghanistan.

The fighting in Iraq was more intense than some realized it would be.

"We saw a lot of surrendering we caught EPW's but they weren't rolling over like we thought they would."

As the war continues, we've learned officials in Dover are calling in more than 100 reservists to assist the mortuary staff.
