Gas Leak At Federal Way Construction Site Causes Evacuations

FEDERAL WAY, Wash. —

Evacuations occurred after a gas line was cut at a construction site in Federal Way, Puget Sound Energy said.

The utility said a 4-inch line was cut at the site at 308th Street and Pacific Highway at about 10:30 a.m.

Emergency vehicles and Puget Sound Energy personnel responded at the scene.

Chopper 7 pilot and reporter Clark Stahl said he could see vapor rising from a hole in the ground with a trackhoe nearby.

Two buildings on the east side of Pacific Highway were evacuated, Brian Roberts with the city of Federal Way said.

PSE said the leak was contained by 12:30 p.m.

There have been no reports of medical problems.
