Gas Leak In Auburn Evacuates Businesses

AUBURN, Wash. —

A gas main break in the 4100 block of A Street Southeast in Auburn caused businesses to evacuate or be blocked off, said Kimberly McDonald at Valley Regional Fire Authority.

The gas leak was capped as of 1 p.m. Tuesday.

Construction workers were working on a six inch gas main at about 11:30 a.m. Wednesday when the cap blew off and hit a worker in the face, McDonald said.

The worker was transported to Highline hospital with minor injuries.

Several roads were closed as crews worked to secure the leak.

A 1/8 square mile of Auburn was either under evacuation or "shelter-in-place" orders. Two businesses were completely evacuated and the Albertsons grocery store was the shelter-in-place location.

A woman in Albertsons said customers and staff were being asked to stay inside the story and could not leave.
