Gas Thieves Target Local Church's Van

RENTON, Wash. —

Thieves after gasoline have targeted a Renton-area church's van, stealing gas from the van on at least three occasions recently, KIRO 7 Eyewitness News reported.

Church officials said the thieves sneaked into the church's parking lot and made off with gas from the van, used mostly by the church's youth group.

"The sad thing is they're not only stealing the gas, they're damaging the vehicle every time," said Jim Gagner of East Renton Community Church.

Instead of siphoning out the gas, Gagner said they cut the hose by the gas tank.

"It costs us money every time we have to repair it," he said.

The van is fixed, but the gas tank is empty. Gagner said he hopes that will keep the thieves away.
