Girls Recant Story Of Luring Attempt In Lacey

LACEY, Wash. —

Two girls who told police on Thursday that a man tried to lure them have recanted their story, police said.

The two girls said they were on their way home from Lydia Hawk Elementary school when a white van stopped in front of them, police said.

The girls told police that a man got out of the van and walked toward them, motioning them to come to him. The girls said they took off running back to the school where they eventually told their principal. Police said after questioning Friday morning, the girls said they made up their story. They said they heard about the two other luring attempts in Lacey involving a white van over the last several weeks. The girls said they saw a man talking to a woman in a van and that started their story, police said.

Police are still investigating the two other luring attempts in Lacey.
