Gov. Gregoire Hopes To Decide On 3rd Term By Early Summer

SEATTLE —

Washington Governor Chris Gregoire told Politico she's "not even thinking about" a third term yet but that she hopes to make a decision by early summer.

Gregoire won re-election over perennial opponent Dino Rossi in 2008, and her current term expires in 2012.

"There’s no fair assumption right now, other than, I really don’t think about this," Gregoire told Politico. "I'm so preoccupied with getting through this legislative session, which I think will be one of the most difficult in our history, keeping it bipartisan, working together, solving problems. That's a full plate. I'm going to focus on that. Once I'm through the session, I'll get together with my family and we'll make the decision."

Re-election was more of a footnote in the Q&A, in which Politico questioned Gregoire, the chair of the National Governors Association, about that organization's aims, health care reform and how the federal deficit might affect states.
