Graham Man 4th Reno Air Race Casualty From State

GRAHAM, Wash. —

KIRO 7 Eyewitness News learned a fourth person from Washington state died from the Reno Air Races crash, now known as the nation's deadliest air racing disaster.

A sister-in-law confirmed that James McMichael of Graham died as a result of injuries suffered when a World War II-era fighter plane crashed there Friday.

The death toll in that crash now stands at 10.

McMichael was in a group from the Graham-Kapowsin area who were among the casualties.

Doug Clough, 63, was in surgery in Reno last night.

Returning to Sea-Tac airport, Julie Workman, of Marysville, was still nursing a swollen leg after the crash, but she said she considers herself lucky to have survived:

"I've seen plenty of airshows, and when he went up and came over, I kept saying, ‘pull up, pull up,’ and you know, I knew that there was no control of the plane,” said Workman.

Also killed in the crash was former Air Canada Captain George Hewitt and his wife, Wendy, who used to live in Bellingham.

Greg Morcom, of Marysville, was also killed. Morcom was at the races with his father and brother.

Seven of the 10 people known to be dead have been identified.

At least three are still listed as missing.
