Granite Falls' Main Street Cracking And Sinking

Related

GRANITE FALLS —

The main street in Granite Falls was

rebuilt only last year at a cost of more than 600-thousand dollars,

and already the pavement is cracking and sinking in some places.

The town's engineering consultant, Gray and Osborne of Seattle, and

the contractor, Division 2Construction of Kirkland, agree that the

most likely reason is inadquate compaction of soil beneath Stanley

Street.

The work is under warranty through next June, and the two

sides are negotiating on how to fix the problem and who should pay.

The road had to be rebuilt because of heavy truck traffic to and

from a few gravel pits.
