"Bainbridge to the Bayous" is a group of islanders here helping islanders in Cajun Country, and their fundraising efforts are energized now that a ticket to the Super Bowl is up for grabs.

Members of the group loaded up a moving van on Bainbridge Island with building materials, tools and appliances bound for Vermilion Parish, Louisiana, where many lost everything in hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

But the relief effort came up short when it tried to raise $1,500 to repair a community center. Now a retired doctor is trying to close the gap.

"Because my job as a physician was always to help people and I always love to help people," said Dr. Franklin Chu, who is also a big Seahawks fan.

Monday, the season ticket holder got an e-mail from the Seahawks telling him he'd won a ticket to the Super Bowl in the ticket lottery.

He immediately decided to auction off the ticket for the hurricane relief effort.

"I think in the big picture this project is much more worthwhile for me," Dr. Chu said.

Dr. Chu hopes to start the bidding at $1,500 but is willing to take $5,000 for the seat right now.

"We're hoping someone can say to their spouse, 'Honey, it's a good cause and we were going to give that anyway, so let's get a Super Bowl ticket out of it,'" said Christine Rolfes, of Bainbridge to the Bayous.

Dr. Chu will actually be in Louisiana, helping assess the needs of hurricane victims there on the day of the Super Bowl Game.
