Over 100 people showed up at a pro-gun rally in Olympia Friday morning.

Of those who attended, including men, women and kids, some came with rifles and handguns in view.

KIRO 7 Eyewitness News reporter Alexandra Limon spoke with gun owners that wanted to get the message across that they expect the state’s legislators to support the rights to bear arms.

Jason Dupa said he feels threatened by push from the federal government to ban assault weapons.

“I believe that the Second Amendment is a reflection of our moral right to defend ourselves, and I believe that it’s under attack right now,” said Dupa.

Dupa came with his M1 Garand semi-automatic rifle, which he recently bought just in case he loses his rights.

Other gun owners are worried about stricter restrictions also.

“I just don’t like the government intruding and taking away our rights that we’ve had forever and ever,” said gun owner Dan Tidwell.

Dan Blanchard was at the gathering with his wife, three daughters and son, and he supports gun rights.

“So, I think I have a little mixed view on it,” said Blanchard.

Blanchard said he wouldn’t be against stricter regulations and background checks in certain situations.

“Legally right now, I could transfer it to you for whatever consideration we decide on, and that’s probably not in the best interest of the buyer or the seller in that case because I don’t know you, so I don’t know what’s going to happen with that firearm,” said Blanchard.

The group that organized the rally said they also organized other rallies around the country on Friday.
