Good Weather Brings Bad Air

SEATTLE —

Our clean air in the Puget Sound area is being threatened by unusual weather conditions.

BURN BAN Latest air quality information from Puget Sound Clean Air Agency

From Seattle to Tacoma the observations are the same.

"It's a lot smoggier," said a Seattle resident.

"It's grayer. Even I got my sunglasses on, it's grayer," said a Tacoma resident.

Our scenery is getting spoiled by smog thanks to weather conditions that are more common in Southern California than the Pacific Northwest.

"We're getting a lot of basically warm air aloft here and it's trapping, putting a lid on our air pollution, trapping pollutants near the surface," said Mike Schultz of the Puget Sound Clean Air Agency.

The Puget Sound Clean Air Agency says at times air quality has been slipping to unhealthy levels for sensitive groups.

The agency suggests people limit driving as much as possible, since vehicle emissions are the single biggest source of air pollution. Officials said people should observe the burn ban now in effect.
