King County Gets More Flu Vaccine

SEATTLE —

King County is getting 60,000 additional flu shots, allowing vaccinations for more people who are at high risk for complications from the flu, public health officials said Monday.

The county will receive 38,000 doses of the vaccine from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and is getting 22,000 other doses from its own sources.

"Our goal now is to make sure that the vaccine gets to people throughout King County at high risk for severe influenza," said Dr. Alonzo Plough, Director and Health Officer at Public Health - Seattle & King County.

People considered at high risk of flu complications include these groups:

All children aged 6 to 23 months. Adults aged 65 years and older. Persons age 2 to 64 years with underlying chronic medical conditions. All women who will be pregnant during influenza season. Residents of nursing homes and long-term care facilities. Children 6 months to 18 years of age on chronic aspirin therapy. Health-care workers with direct patient care. Out-of-home caregivers and household contacts of children aged less than six months.
