Wild Birds Tested For Avian Flu

MOUNT VERNON, Wash. —

Wild bird testing for avian flu started Wednesday in the Skagit Valley.

The Fish and Wildlife Department will capture and analyze migratory birds flying through and above Washington state.

Some of those birds migrate from Asia, where dozens of people have died from bird flu.

The birds will be tagged and a sample will be sent to a lab to determine if they are carrying the H5N1 virus.
