SEATTLE —
Temperatures are reaching their highest in Western Washington this weekend and will play a big role for Seafair.
About 150,000 people are expected to be at Seafair events, and attendees are advised to be prepared for heat-related dangers, especially with temperatures reaching nearly 90 degrees.
These include heat exhaustion, sunburns and drowning, since many will be on area waters.
“We’re definitely counting on seeing people who are overheated,” said Dr. Mitch Store of Sports Medicine Clinic.
Many attendees at Stan Sayres pits told KIRO 7 Eyewitness News reporter Bob Robuck that the great weather was the only thing they could talk about.
KIRO 7 spoke with Seafair fan Gina Williams about the precautions she is taking for her and her children during the events.
“They have sun screen, and they’ve got hats, and we’ve got umbrellas too,” said Williams.
The King County Marine Unit has focused on Seafair, and several local fire departments will be ready to respond to any rescues on area lakes and rivers.
Officers will be out in force this weekend and they will be looking for boaters who have had too much to drink.
Police tell KIRO 7 the blood alcohol limit for boaters is the same as drivers, which is .08.
