The fire started around 12:20 p.m. at an auto parts warehouse at the Four Corners Wrecking Yard, at Kent Kangley Road and Maple Valley Highway. It sent dark smoke into the sky until firefighters knocked it down.

Firefighters from Renton, Black Diamond and Kent helped Maple Valley firefighters. Firefighters poured on water from hoses on the ground and from ladders.

The fire started when a worker using a cutting torch to cut a bed from a truck ignited some gasoline and caused an explosion, KIRO 7 Eyewitness News reported.

Workers tried to put the fire out, but it got out of control, KIRO-TV said.

Witnesses reported hearing several explosions, apparently as fuel tanks or other combustibles burned.
