I-90 Traffic Builds As Holiday Weekend Ends

CLE ELUM, Wash. —

High volumes of holiday traffic and an incident involving an emergency response caused a 13 mile backup on Interstate 90 in the Cle Elum area on Monday.

The Washington State Department of Transportation reported the backup between milepost 73 and milepost 86 at 1:30 p.m. and said that traffic would add about an hour to travel times for drivers passing through.

By 4 p.m., WSDOT reported the backup had grown to 20 miles and predicted a 90 minute delay for drivers.

The delays were expected to extend into the evening hours as Memorial Day comes to an end.
