Investigators Track Fake 911 Calls

SEATTLE —

Investigators have tracked two fake 911 calls in the past two weeks. One was reported in Leschi, the other in North Seattle.

Police said it's a dangerous hoax that's jeopardizing safety and costing the public money.

Craig Elias told KIRO 7 officers surrounded his North Seattle home Monday night after a 911 caller directed police to the house for an emergency.

"The police were right in the front window," said Craig Elias. "And there was another at the front door."

According to the police report, the phony 911 caller told dispatchers that he "shot a black male for trying to steal his lawnmower ... and threatened to shoot officers if they came inside his house."

The other fake 911 call sent police to the Leschi neighborhood. Police believe the same man forced them to shut down the area while they investigated.

Investigators are working on tracing the calls back to the man responsible.

The Seattle Police Department said it's a crime to make phony 911 calls and ask you to call them if you have any information about this case.
