RENTON, Wash. —

A crash involving a jackknifed semitruck and an SUV blocked all southbound Interstate 405 traffic in Renton for hours Monday morning.

The Washington State Patrol said the SUV was stopped in the middle of I-405 near State Route 900 around 2 a.m.

A trooper was en route to the disabled SUV when the driver of a semi truck tried to go around the SUV but instead clipped it and ended up jackknifed across I-405, blocking all the southbound lanes.

The crash and fuel spill shut down the freeway for more than three hours.

The truck hit the center divider so hard it knocked a 2-ton block off of its foundation.

“The driver of the SUV was extremely lucky, judging from the force of how hard he hit that barrier and moved it. If he had actually made good solid contact with that car we'd actually be doing a death investigation here,” said Trooper Nathan Dashiell.

The Washington State patrol said no one was hurt.

The driver of the SUV was arrested on drunken driving charges.

The freeway opened around 5:30 a.m.
