SEATTLE —
A girl who could not remember how she came to be in New York City was identified Sunday as 18-year-old Kacie Peterson of Kitsap County, according to Kitsap County sheriff's spokesman Scott Wilson.
Officers responding to a call on Oct. 9 in Midtown Manhattan picked up the woman at Covenant House, a shelter for homeless youth near the Port Authority.
The woman told police she did not know her identity or how she came to be in New York.
New York authorities began circulating a photograph of her in the media on Oct. 22, requesting help identifying her.
A viewer saw her picture and contacted authorities. Peterson had been living in Hansville and attending Kingston High School, Kitsap authorities said.
The woman's family flew to New York to bring her home.
