JOINT BASE LEWIS-McCHORD, Wash. —

About 100 soldiers reunited with their families Saturday morning at Joint Base Lewis-McChord.

The soldiers are from the 593rd Sustainment Brigade and have been serving in Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom for nine months.

Officials said the soldiers provided food and ammunition to the troops in Afghanistan.

KIRO 7 Eyewitness News reporter Frank Field spoke with soldiers who were glad to be back.

“It feels awesome. It feels great to be back,” said Capt. Shawn Green.

Green and his wife have four children who’ve learned to adapt to his deployment, and this was Green’s third.

Chief Warrant Officer Celeste Flowers was stateside while her husband was deployed. They’ve served together all 11 years of their marriage. She said true love helps her deal with the four years’ worth of deployments apart.

“Family is first, but we don’t look at it like that. We just think about the mission and our country is calling us to do a job and we do it. And you know, with love and support, that true love that I was talking about, that’s what it takes to make it work,” said Flowers.

The soldiers will have the weekend to be with their families and then they will go through re-integration classes before resuming their duties stateside.
