OLYMPIA, Wash. —

A man who was out for a morning jog in Olympia was hit and killed in a busy intersection.

It happened shortly after 6 a.m. at Cooper Point Road and Capital Mall Drive Southwest.

Witnesses said the man was crossing the intersection when he was hit by a Jeep.

Several people, including nurses, rushed to help, but the 59-year-old man died at the scene.

The driver of the Jeep stopped immediately and was interviewed by officers, police said.

Police said drugs or alcohol were not a factor in the accident.

Investigators are still trying to determine the cause of the crash.

“They both couldn’t have had the right of way at the same time.  We’ve already checked the intersection lights and they’re working properly,” said Jim Partin with Olympia police.

The intersection was closed to traffic during the investigation.
